Power of the Primes Grimlock is Voyager size and is the central component of the combiner Volcanicus, as well as the leader of the Dinobots. This is the first time that all five Dinobots have been together since their original G1 (and G2) toys. Being Diaclone toys, those molds were good enough to stand the test of time. In fact, I think I prefer that old Grimlock to this one. But this one has the handicap of a third mode, so it would be hard to make it as good. In addition to the figure, box, instructions and stat card, he comes with two Volcanicus feet and a Power Core. Unfortunately, he is missing his sword and gun. This kind of thing is why I think Hasbro supports the Third Party market. How can you make Grimlock without his sword. Almost worse; Volcanicus has no sword! I have been watching the Third Parties, and there are several that offer better parts for combining Volcanicus as well as guns and swords for the Dinobots.
The first thing I noticed about Grimlock was his head. It is nearly identical to the G1 version.
It almost looks like a peg hole for some flames, doesn’t it?
Here is the first problem. He is way too skinny and his tail, being combiner thighs, is shaped strangely. It kind of looks like they were trying to make his posture to be able to stand on his tail like his G1 version, or be more parallel to the ground, like the modern fossil interpretation. So you could choose.
Here is a better look at the rectangular tail and the Volcanicus parts on his back. His legs also have a strange looking port on them for the combiner arms.
As a robot, Grimlock is good, bit not great. The chest halves tend to come apart.
He has the expected dino kibble on his back, but the dino torso halves are not as visible from the front and neither are the dino front limbs.
The feet can be used as large claw weapons. This looks silly on Starscream and Elita-1, but it works for Grimlock. The Power Core part fits into the feet, or the hands/feet that come with the other Dinobots.
Overall, this Grimlock is good. His dino mode looks a little strange, but I am happy to have a good modern Grimlock. I just with he had a sword.
